According to Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary, the definition of a consigliere is a person who serves as an adviser or counselor to the leader of a criminal organization. Consigliere was a term originally used by the Mafia. The American Mafia was originally organized by family. A Consigliere would advise the head of the family. Today, any person in a position of power may refer to his or her advisors as consiglieres.
